TISS or Tata Institute of Social Sciences is a social sciences institute whose main campus is based in Mumbai, India. TISS BAT 2021 Notifications and Application 

  • The TISS BAT 2021 is a computer test which was conducted on  2nd week of August 2021.
  • To apply for this, candidates must make sure they first meet eligibility requirements.
  • Once they have made sure of this they should ensure they have all the necessary documents, they can continue on to registration.
  • The application can be made only through online mode.
  • The application is released on 1st week of December 2021.
  • Candidates have to apply on or before last week of April 2021.
  • Candidates will have to create an account by giving their email ID and selecting a password. After that they have to fill in the registration forms. The registration form can be done on one shot or it can be bit by bit with the candidate opting to save the form in drafts.
  • The payment for general category is Rs. 1025, which can be paid online through credit/debit/net banking. The candidates who are paying online will be asked to choose between cash or payment gateway. Candidates paying through bank transfer will be given two challan copies by the bank. The candidate then has to scan the ‘TISS Copy’ and upload it in the application system

TISS BAT 2021 eligibility criteria

  • The first eligibility criteria for appearing for the TISS BAT is that the candidate should be less than 23 years of age as of April 22, 2021.
  • Candidates should apply with their 12th standard results. Those awaiting results can also apply as long as they submit the marks at the time of joining the degree program.
  • The reservation of seats is as per the Government of India rules. 15% for Scheduled Castes, 7.5% for Scheduled Tribes, 27% for Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer) and 1% for Kashmiri Migrants.
  • The 3% for Persons with Disability as per Disability Act (which is 1% each reserved for persons with (a) Low Vision/Blindness, (b) Hearing Impairment, and (c) Learning Disability/Cerebral Palsy) and 5% for Arm Forces (Supernumerary Quota, respectively).
  • For candidates applying to the Guwahati campus, 66% of seats are reserved for North East states and rest 34% for candidates from all over India.

TISS BAT 2021 Exam Pattern

  • The exam is for a total of 100 marks and is of 90 minutes duration.
  • There are two parts in the exam- Part A and Part B. 
  • The exam is an online test, so it will be taken on a computer. Candidates will have to choose one centre at the time of application. This choice cannot be changed.
  • Part A is for 60 minutes out of the total 90 minutes. It carries 60 marks and consists of multiple-choice questions on current affairs, social awareness and logical and analytical reasoning, carrying 60 marks. Each question is for 1 mark and 1 minute of allotted for each question.
  • Part B on the other hand is for 30 minutes and carries 40 marks. It involves written test with a set of questions in English. Candidate has to write two short answers in the allotted timing.

Both parts are compulsory for candidates writing the exam. The  cut off marks are separate for each section. Based on these marks, the shortlisted candidates will be called for a personal interview. This interview itself carries 50 marks. Based on this score and based on the BAT score, candidates will be offered or declined admission. The interview is used for determining personal motivation for applying to the degree programmes.


The results will be announced on last week of August 2021.

  • The admit card can be downloaded by the candidate after registering for the exam. The candidate can do this by logging in using their details.
  • Candidates should frequently check the TISS website for updates and dates on when the results are out. They can also check if they have qualified for interview and admission to the course.
  • The cut off for the programs will be announced by TISS after the results are declared. Again candidates should stay tuned to the website and check frequently.
  • Candidates wishing to apply for this exam must ensure they follow all the procedures in the website while applying.
